Wrong plough!

This plough is obviously not made for breaking new ground. It is probably best for working soil that has already been worked up a bit.

So all I can do here is be patient and wait for the next plough.

A story like no other about a little red tractor.

Then the day was here, almost like May Day.

The two-wheel tractor has finally arrived, and it went almost like clockwork.

The first challenge, after unpacking it and finding out I had been sent the wrong plough, was getting it to start.

That turned out to be difficult. After a while with a bit of swearing, and with help from a friend, it finally started. The problem turned out to be that the fuel tap had been left open during transport. That had left the engine full of petrol. After unscrewing the spark plug and standing there staring at the tractor for about thirty minutes, I tried starting the engine with a dry plug! It started on the first try, to the great relief of young and old.

Growing vegetables at Heggli

After seeing and hearing about the concept of a market garden farm, we were inspired to try it on a small scale here at Heggli. We are giving it a go on an area of about 10x10 metres.

The most important thing we based the size and location of the beds on is that they should be easy to scale up and have good drainage.

The number 10 was chosen because it makes it easy to calculate how much seed and fertiliser we need. It is also easier if you want to scale up the production.
