A story like no other about a little red tractor.
Then the day was here, almost like May Day.
The two-wheel tractor has finally arrived, and it went almost like clockwork.
The first challenge, after unpacking it and finding out I had been sent the wrong plough, was getting it to start.
That turned out to be difficult. After a while with a bit of swearing, and with help from a friend, it finally started. The problem turned out to be that the fuel tap had been left open during transport. That had left the engine full of petrol. After unscrewing the spark plug and standing there staring at the tractor for about thirty minutes, I tried starting the engine with a dry plug! It started on the first try, to the great relief of young and old.
Next up is getting started with the ploughing. That is also a bit of a challenge, because after checking the gear oil with the dipstick it was obvious there is too little, so that has to be topped up as well. Seen that way it is almost lucky that I got the wrong plough, since it doesn’t use the power take-off.
So, a short summary of the faults with the delivery!
- Fuel tap left open during transport
- Almost no engine oil in the engine
- Very low level of gear oil, can’t use the power take-off
- Wrong plough delivered
But it looks good and the engine sounds good. So I think this will be a good tool for making small patches of field. It is just a bit tedious with teething problems like these and things missing from the delivery.
I have been in touch with the supplier and the rotary plough is on its way. I got the plough that came with it at a nice price. I heard from a friend who sells lawn mowers and that kind of machine that it is normal to deliver them without engine oil. So it is probably more of a noob mistake on my part.
